A sunny day

A sunny day

This is one of my favorite pictures of Shelby of all time! I did her makeup and she told me it was the first time she had felt beautiful since chemo.  We put on some cute dresses, sat on the porch,  talked and took alot of pictures.

On this day the community of family and friends came together to help do some yard work. There were so many smiling faces happy to help and SO MUCH got done.

There was not one not two but three dogs there! And Shelby was overwhelmed and excited by the cuteness.

Surprise

Surprise

I remember when Shelby surprised me on my birthday, I blew up the mattress and then we just laid on it and took cute picures for a while.

I was visiting for a sleepover, we went through coopys costumes and picked some stuff out so the dogs would be fancy for pictures.

Poppy has a bow on her head and cooper is looking dapper in his bow tie. It was so nice to see Shelby and hang out mask-free. Face masks, laughs, movies and snacks. A typical michaela/ Shelby sleepover .

Sleepover

Sleepover

Our sleepovers were the one thing I looked forward to every weekend. Every Friday or Saturday I’d stand by the phone waiting for her to call. When she did I would say I have to ask my mom by really I would just tell her I’m going to Shelby’s again and she would just say alright have fun. Girl didn’t know I was already packed hours ago. Our sleepovers were always so exciting and completely unpredictable. It was never planned. We would play just dance, have our own fashion runway shows, do our makeup, paint our nails, bake and make food, and always always laugh! And I hated leaving the next morning. I will forever cherish those moments and never ever forget those times together.

“Shelby was here!”

“Shelby was here!”

I moved away from CP just before starting Grade 9, and Shelby was the first to know. After she found out, the rest of the summer was filled with spending as much time together as humanly possible. This included one of the best camping trips I have ever been on, which I will probably post about later (too much happened to share it in this same post!) When I moved, Shelby gave me a card, addressed to Jason (it’s an inside joke, I honestly don’t even remember how it started!) Inside the card she told me not to forget about her, and attached this sticky note (the one in the picture) saying “Shelby was here!”  She told me to keep it in my locker at my new school so that it would be like she was always with me. This sticky note has stayed up above the light switch in my bedroom since the day I moved into my new house, although it has to be taped up now. She was always with me, even though we lived in different places, and I get to be reminded of that every day.

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff

A few days ago while booking concert tickets I thought of the first concert that I ever went to. As the title of this post suggests it was…… Hilary Duff!! It was Shelby and I’s first concert ever and we were taken by Jeff and Marybeth. We got to sit in a box for the concert and we felt so fancy! However, as soon as the concert started we had to stuff Kleenex’s into our ears because it was so LOUD. Marybeth and Jeff had to as well but I think it might have had to do more with the hundreds of screaming girls (that Shelby and I might have contributed to)! We still danced and had the best time though, definitely the best first concert experience I could have asked for!

“Swimming”

“Swimming”

Today for work, I had to go to the pool with the kids I work with. It didn’t really hit me until I got in the water and it was freezing and I was on my tippy toes trying to keep as much of my body out as possible. All of a sudden a million flashbacks starting flooding in of Shelby and I in that exact pool just a few years ago trying to keep as much of our body’s out of the water laughing. We would go twice a week to try and help Shelbys back pain although we dreaded it. On the drive there, we would take the long way around driving as slow as possible laughing ours butts off at how ridiculous we were. We would slowly get in the pool, do a few laps and then sit where the jets were just talking and laughing. Before getting out super early so we could take extra long showers and then slowly drive home so Marybeth wouldn’t know how much swim time we were skipping out on. I couldn’t really swim and Shelby never let me live that down. During our time in the pool she taught me how to tread water (it took a few sessions 😂) I was supposed to be there to help Shelby but there she was helping me. I hated swimming and so did she but it started the most amazing friendship and gives me the most wonderful memories.

An Imminent Friendship

An Imminent Friendship

Shelby and I became best friends in the sixth grade. She was the one who Made me think, where has she been all my life. Turns out, not far at all. Every year, particularly every summer since I was a baby, My family and I would travel down to the family cottage to Oak island on Lake Nipissing. Funny that it took Shelby and I a couple years after we became friends to realize that she did too. So really almost every time I would visit camp, she was just on the other side of the island the whole time. Our family’s knew each other and our relatives partied with each other. Note, I found out first cause long story short, my mom somehow found out she was part of the Trottier family, and when I tried telling her, she thought I was crazy. But eventually I explained everything and we both thought it was craziest thing that we were that close to each other and most likely met once when we were little but never realized until later. Cheesy or not cheesy, but It was fate that we became best friends. Grew up on the same island, lived on the same road, went to the same schools and road the same bus. I was just so happy that we eventually found each other.
