Blockbuster Nights

Blockbuster Nights

My roommate and I were talking the other day about nostalgic movies we used to watch when we were younger and it triggered a lot of memories for me about the movies Shelby and I used to watch together when we were at Granny’s or Grandpa’s. I remember going to Blockbuster with Grandpa to pick out movies for our sleepovers but I think the popular choice was usually Aquamarine. This inspired our mermaid obsession and led to many ongoing debates about what we would name ourselves if we were mermaids and what colour our hair and tails would be (The debates could get quite heated).

At Granny’s I remember the movie choices being a little bit more eccentric. Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was shown quite a few times and I was subsequently traumatized because it was terrifying. I’m not sure if Shelby was as scared as I was but I think she did a better job of hiding it. The other movie Granny always had us watch was Heart: The Marilyn Bell story, which was about the girl who swam across Lake Ontario without stopping. I think it was supposed to be inspiring but all we took out of it was that we didn’t like eels. The message skipped over us and landed with Kenzie I think.

I love and miss you. I also watched Skyhigh the other day which was a classic movie we used to watch all the time too!
