Blockbuster Nights

Blockbuster Nights

My roommate and I were talking the other day about nostalgic movies we used to watch when we were younger and it triggered a lot of memories for me about the movies Shelby and I used to watch together when we were at Granny’s or Grandpa’s. I remember going to Blockbuster with Grandpa to pick out movies for our sleepovers but I think the popular choice was usually Aquamarine. This inspired our mermaid obsession and led to many ongoing debates about what we would name ourselves if we were mermaids and what colour our hair and tails would be (The debates could get quite heated).

At Granny’s I remember the movie choices being a little bit more eccentric. Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was shown quite a few times and I was subsequently traumatized because it was terrifying. I’m not sure if Shelby was as scared as I was but I think she did a better job of hiding it. The other movie Granny always had us watch was Heart: The Marilyn Bell story, which was about the girl who swam across Lake Ontario without stopping. I think it was supposed to be inspiring but all we took out of it was that we didn’t like eels. The message skipped over us and landed with Kenzie I think.

I love and miss you. I also watched Skyhigh the other day which was a classic movie we used to watch all the time too!

Bubble Blowout

Bubble Blowout

I stumbled across this picture after Shelby and I talked about the crazy amount of fun we had had at the foam party in Mexico. It’s extremely blurry but I think it captures the essence of our smiles and the rowdiness of that night. It was great except for all the creepy guys we reminisced about sneaking into the bubbles to escape! Definitely one of the best times I had in Mexico!

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff

A few days ago while booking concert tickets I thought of the first concert that I ever went to. As the title of this post suggests it was…… Hilary Duff!! It was Shelby and I’s first concert ever and we were taken by Jeff and Marybeth. We got to sit in a box for the concert and we felt so fancy! However, as soon as the concert started we had to stuff Kleenex’s into our ears because it was so LOUD. Marybeth and Jeff had to as well but I think it might have had to do more with the hundreds of screaming girls (that Shelby and I might have contributed to)! We still danced and had the best time though, definitely the best first concert experience I could have asked for!

Relay for Life 2019

Relay for Life 2019

The theme of this years relay was Harry Potter and the message “Be Bigger Than Cancer.” Shelby, while loving Harry Potter, also embodies that message with every aspect of her character so I thought this years theme was fitting.

My team decorated luminaries as Shelby’s Ass Kickers (although not everyone has the artistic talent that I do…..jk). In total, the University of Guelph raised $158,000 for cancer research, treatment and education this year. This breaks the all-time record for most amount of funds raised in Canadian relay for life history. If you zoom into the picture below you can see the cute cousin picture we took at Christmas. We love you Shelby   <3

Her Majesty the QUEEN

Her Majesty the QUEEN

AKA the best concert ever!! From multiple shots of ouzo to puking up mussels in a club bathroom, to losing Granny, this night was one for the books. After driving up, the pre-concert drinks and our family is pre-HARD. Shelby was trying to keep everyone’s drinking in check before we got to the concert but no one can tell Granny “no” once she gets her hands on Prosecco. We waited for a while to get in but once we did Marybeth sent me to get a triple shot of vodka and soda, I double fisted beers and the show was under way. We were on our feet before Queen even got out on stage! People told us to sit down but they got the good ole Greco and Devine stare down. We danced so hard that night, were on our feet the whole show and had the best time!! Afterwards, we lost Granny for a bit in which some of us (cough *Alyssa* cough) thought that she had gotten lost on the rowdy streets of Montreal. Shelby thought more of Granny’s street smarts however and led us back to the hotel where Granny was waiting to enjoy some more alcohol and some mussels. The details of the rest of the night are a bit hazy but cigars and puking up mussels in a sketchy club bathroom do ring some bells.

The ride back was filled with Granny negotiating the streets of Montreal, me attempting not to puke and Shelby laughing at me and calling me an idiot. Best night ever!! Queen definitely rocked us!

North Bay Reunion to End All Reunions

North Bay Reunion to End All Reunions

The North Bay reunion was filled with Kenzie, Shelby and I awkwardly saying hi to a lot of people saying “Wow, you guys are all grown up” to which Shelby said “Ya, you might have a hard time recognizing Madison, she’s lost ALOT of weight!” (Not my fault I was a fat baby!!) The rest of the night was spent with Shelby distracting the adults while I stole Sangria until eventually even she cut me off! This picture was taken in the midst of petting a lot of cute dogs and learning how to use a boomerang and there will definitely be a very funny gif to follow!
